A difficult stretch can change more than your mood. Enjoyment, concentration, energy and ordinary tasks may feel different too. This check gives you a structured way to describe those changes instead of judging yourself for having them.
Free Depression Check includes 30 questions. Allow about 6-9 minutes, with time to pause. The questionnaire and basic information are free. Optional detailed analysis, the complete answer review and the companion e-book are available for a one-time fee. You decide whether to purchase those additions.
What the questions explore
Mood and enjoyment
Changes in interest, emotional tone and connection with things that matter. A description of mood is different from a verdict about who you are. An activity feeling less rewarding today does not prove that it can never matter again. The report focuses on what you endorsed over the last two weeks, with room for context such as illness, grief, stress and changes in circumstances.
Energy and thinking
Changes in effort, attention and recovery. When attention or energy is limited, a long list of improvements can become another demand. Pick one essential need and identify the smallest practical action related to it. That might be asking someone to sit with you while you arrange an appointment or making the next routine step easier to reach.
Daily life and self-talk
The effect on routines, relationships and the way you treat yourself. If naming emotions feels difficult, begin with something concrete. You can explain that messages go unanswered, decisions take longer or routine needs are slipping. These examples help another person understand the effect without asking you to produce a polished account of everything you feel.
How to answer
Answer about the past two weeks. Read each statement separately and choose the frequency that fits your experience. Use your own recent experience rather than what you think you should feel. You may pause or stop. If you feel unable to stay safe or might harm yourself, seek immediate support from local emergency services or a trusted person who can stay with you. Do not wait for this questionnaire or a paid report.
What you receive for free
After answering, you receive brief information based on your responses, with practical context for your next step. This basic information is free, including essential guidance about when to seek support. You can read it before deciding whether a more detailed report would be useful.
What the optional detailed analysis adds
The paid report expands the response summary, explains what the answers do and do not support, and includes a complete answer review. The companion e-book helps you organise observations, prepare useful questions and plan a conversation about support. Purchase is a single optional payment, with no subscription or automatic renewal.
Understanding the limits
This is an original Mind Indicator reflection questionnaire, not a validated clinical scale. It has not been independently validated or normed. It describes experiences you report, not a probability of having a condition or a clinical severity rating. Each area contains 10 direct-scored items, each rated 0-4. An area summary is round(raw points / 40 * 100). The 0-33, 34-66 and 67-100 descriptions are editorial frequency summaries, not clinical cutoffs. There is no overall illness score. Physical health, current risk and appropriate care require individual professional assessment; a lower score does not rule out a problem.
Support comes before a score
If you feel unable to stay safe or might harm yourself, seek immediate support from local emergency services or a trusted person who can stay with you. Do not wait for this questionnaire or a paid report.
A useful way to follow up
Save one ordinary example that explains why you chose your answers. Keep the description concrete: what changed, what was difficult, how it affected your routine and what help you would like. A questionnaire can organise that information, but it cannot consider everything a health professional would ask about. You can seek support even if your answers do not fit a neat category.
